Governor Namadi Umar of Jigawa State has called on the newly appointed Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Saidu, to uphold the trust placed in her by President Bola Tinubu, as well a good ambassador of the state.
Governor Namadi made the remarks when the minister led a delegation of elder statesmen from her home region of Babura Local Government and Ringim Emirate on a courtesy call on the governor.
The delegation also comprised of traditional rulers and community leaders.
Receiving the visitors, Governor Umar acknowledging Dr. Saidu’s expressed his confidence in her capabilities and emphasized on the need for the minister to work diligently to enhance the quality of education in Jigawa State and Nigeria in general by leveraging her vast experience in the educational sector.
“Her appointment as a minister is a choice from Allah. Also, I must say that the Honourable Minister is a dedicated person. Before her appointment as the minister, she was the Provost, Jigawa State College of Islamic and Legal Studies, and the about six months she stayed in the college, she has turned around the college beyond reasonable doubt,” the governor said.
“And that has shown that she has the capacity, and when this opportunity came up, we needed somebody who will help the President and somebody who will work for the President. So we felt she was the right person, and therefore, God has accepted, and she has now been appointed as a minister.
“So, we congratulate her, and we are confident that she will not disappoint Mr. President, and we are confident that he will not appoint the Jigawa state people. Our major expectation from her is that she should be able to drive the president’s agenda. That is exactly what we are expecting from her,” the governor noted.
Speaking earlier, Dr. Saidu expressed gratitude to the Governor for supporting her nomination, saying that the visit was a gesture of appreciation for Governor Namadi’s role in facilitating her appointment as Minister.
“What I will say first and foremost is to thank the executive governor of Jigawa State for finding me worthy for this appointment and to assure the governor and the people of Nigeria that I will do the best of my ability to ensure that we deliver on the mandate given to us, specifically with regards to the reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reformed agenda on education,” the Minister pointed out.
She reiterated her commitment to the development of education in Jigawa and Nigeria at large, pledging to work tirelessly to implement President Tinubu’s educational reform agenda.
