Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has flagged off the distribution of flood relief materials to 15,775 victims across 17 local government councils in the state.
Our correspondent reports that each household will receive a 10kg bag of rice, maize, guinea-corn, one carton of spaghetti, and N20,000 cash.
At the flag-off ceremony in Buji and Kiyawa, Governor Namadi expressed his government’s concern for those affected by the flood and commiserated with the families of the 36 people who lost their lives.
He noted that the relief materials were aimed at reducing the hardship faced by the displaced persons, not as compensation.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Danladi Sankara, said the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency had been working tirelessly to reach the flood victims.
He added that the agency had provided rapid response, second relief materials, and would continue to support each family and victim of the flood across the state.
Thousands of flood victims who received the relief materials expressed their gratitude to Governor Namadi for his support and concern over their plight.
