Jigawa Commences Compensation Of Victims Of Majiya Tanker Explosion

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has administered the disbursement of N813 million to over 210 victims of last October 2024 Majiya tanker explosion in the state.
Speaking while presenting cheques to the beneficiaries, Namadi charged the disbursement committee members to have fear of God, uphold probity and accountability, warning your task was to ensure justice, fairness, transparency, and equity in seeing only the victims were served accordingly.
He also charged them to ensure only the families of the affected victims of both the 201 deceased and the 70 survivors who sustained injuries were attended to.
According to the Governor, N850 million has been redeemed from the over N1.6 billion pledged by individuals, groups, and public organisations to assist the victims, urged committee members to intensify efforts to recover the remaining pledges as distribution begins.
Earlier, the committee Chairman, DIG Hafiz M. Inuwa (rtd), revealed that the incident affected 308 people, with 209 deaths and 99 survivors sustaining various injuries.
