The Kano State Chapter of the Nigerian Institution of Power Engineers (NIPE), has tasked the government on the need to ensure strict compliance with right-of-way (ROW) to protect lives and properties of citizens.
The charge was made in a recommendation issued and jointly signed by Engr. David Omoloye, the state chapter Chairman who is also the Chief Technical Officer of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
The recommendation is as a result of a working visit to two of the on-going projects in Rimin-Zakara and Walalambe sub-stations to ascertain the status of the projects which are overdue for commissioning.
The recommendation submits that flouting extant laws in the power sector through building structures and conducting businesses under electricity Lines’ Right of Way is not the best especially with regards to the safety of everyone.
The recommendation also submits that the implementation of local content act should not be compromised during contract award so as to create employment and increase human capacity development.
