Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has demoted the Head Teacher of Tal Central Primary School in Billiri Local Government Area, Mr. Daiya Yila to a class room teacher for illegally collecting what he termed as labour fees from pupils and sending defaulters home.
Commenting on the development the Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB Gombe Hon. Babaji Babadidi said the decision to demote the head teacher to a class room teacher came after series of warnings to him to desist from the act but that all efforts to have the teacher comply fell on deaf ears.
He said on no account should a teacher at the primary and Junior Secondary School level in the State engage pupils and students on farming activities otherwise known as labour or place ridiculous levies and charges on any them.
“It is unacceptable to levy pupils of primary and Junior Secondary schools in the State or better still take them to the farm to work all day, the Board will not accept such exploitation especially in such a time when students have wasted School hours staying at home due to the covid-19 Pandemic”
He said the Board is working assiduously to achieve the intent upon which a State of emergency was declared by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on the Education sector and will not be aloof to conducts that may jeopardize the policy direction.
Hon. Babaji Babadidi said the Education Secretary of Billiri Local Government Area has been directed to enforce the demotion and appoint a teacher of proven integrity to fill the vacant position.
