Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has taken stock of his administration’s performance in qualitative healthcare delivery, remarking that it has excelled over the previous administrations since the creation of the state.
Fintiri was speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony of Demsa Cottage Hospital, Friday, 24th June.
“Health and Human Services, occupy an amiable position in our 11- Point Agenda,” he noted, assuring, “We are committed to providing a world-class healthcare service with an emphasis on quality, access, and affordability to our people.”
His verdict: “At the risk of sounding immodest, I dare say that in the last 3 years, we have added tremendous value to this sector with limited resources, more than any other government in the history of Adamawa State.”
Governor Fintiri counter the gains of his administration in the healthcare sector, saying, “we have established the State Health Insurance Scheme which provides free medical services and treatment to the vulnerable population which includes children under 5 and the aged over 60yrs, people with disability, and pregnant women to the point of delivery and Internally Displaced Persons.”
He said the scheme also provides healthcare cover to all citizens who enroll without subjecting them to making payments at the point of access.
“While this is part of our response strategy for fixing the demand side of the healthcare challenges in the State, we are mindful of the requirements of the supply side; hence, our commitment to the improvement of infrastructure in our existing hospitals and even building new facilities across the State,” he said.
Fintiri said works had reached an advanced stage in the 4 brand new Cottage hospitals we are constructing in Gombi, Girei, Shelleng, and Lamurde, adding that the administration is also completing the Dumne Cottage Hospital, while major renovations and expansion are ongoing progressively in all the General Hospitals in the State.
“We have constructed the first Infectious Disease Center in the Northeast and we are constructing the first Molecular Laboratory in the zone,” he announced, adding, “We have recruited Doctors, Nurses, Medical Laboratory Scientists, and Primary Health Care Workers to provide quality healthcare services across the health facilities.”
It is our fervent belief that we can’t achieve fair inclusion without addressing the fundamental question of access to healthcare.
We made a commitment that we shall construct a secondary health facility in every Local Government that does not have one.
The governor said the foundation laying of a Cottage Hospital in Demsa is in expression of his administration’s committment to construct a secondary healthcare facility in every Local Government Area of the state.
