The Better Life Restoration Initiative (BERI), a Non-Governmental Organization, has called on the Bauchi State government to release funds allocated for Integrated Supportive Supervision (ISS) in the 2024 budget for
Co-anchor of the project aimed at improving healthcare delivery through supervision of Bauchi Primary Healthcare Centers, Ogadinma Nkem Ogbonnaya made this appeal during a roundtable discussion with journalists in Bauchi today.
According to Ogbonnaya, ISS is an intervention that ensures quality improvement by providing adequate oversight, skills, and knowledge transfer to healthcare service providers.
He expressed concern over the dependence on donor agencies, stressing that supporting the project would strengthen the healthcare system, enhance quality service delivery, improve performances, and encourage open communication.
Vanguard reports that BERI is collaborating with five other Civil Society Organizations on a Health System Strengthening Cluster, which includes Life Transformation for Africa Initiative (LIFT4AFRICA), Council for Affirmative Action (COFAA), Women with Disability Integrity & Development Initiative (WDIDI), Bauchi State Network of Civil Societies (BASNEC), and She-Alert Care Foundation (SHE-ALERT).
The 5-year USAID-funded project, which began in October 2020, aims to strengthen the healthcare system through ISS in Bauchi and other 34 states.
Ogbonnaya further emphasized the need for the expansion of the ISS Technical Working Group to include critical stakeholders like Ward Development Committee and the Private Sector.
He also advocated for the establishment of a Private Sector Engagement Unit in the Primary Health Care Centre (PHC) Department of local government areas.
