Governor Namadi Signs Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission Into Law

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has assented into the Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission law, with a pledged that it will enhance electricity access for residents.
Signing the law at the Council Chambers, Government House, Dutse, Governor Namadi reiterated his administration’s resolve to addressing the state’s energy needs, which is in consonants to his 12 point agenda to the development of Jigawa State.
The legislation, which was recently passed by the Jigawa State House of Assembly, of which parts of its mandate includes overseeing electricity generation, transmission, system operation, distribution, and supply in the state.
The law aims to enhance electricity access for residents of Jigawa State while fostering an environment conducive to private sector investment in the power industry, to boost state government’s efforts to enhance electricity regulation and access, to power supply and generation.

It also emphasizes the importance of collaboration through public-private partnerships to improve energy infrastructure and service delivery.
Additionally, the law supports the development of diverse electricity solutions, including grid, mini-grid, and off-grid systems, utilizing both renewable and non-renewable energy sources to meet the state’s growing energy demands.
The law is a vital step towards sustainable development and economic growth in Jigawa State, by strengthening electricity regulation and promoting innovative energy solutions, we aim to create a more reliable and inclusive energy ecosystem for our people.
According to Governor Namadi, the development is expected to improve electricity availability and stimulate economic growth across Jigawa State.
It will be recalled that the Governor Namadi administration, earlier this year, created the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy with Dr. Sirajo Musa as the pioneer commissioner in the ministry.
Similarly Governor Namadi affirmed that under this innovation the establishment of a new regulatory body, will be directly under the supervision of the same ministry, to regulate the distribution and transmission of electricity within the state for effective service delivery.
