Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to investing in teacher training, professional development, and welfare. He stated this at a Teacher’s Day celebration organized by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) on Thursday, October 5th, 2023, at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola.
The Governor expressed his sincere gratitude for the amazing work that teachers are doing, and how their dedication mould, influences and shapes the future of the nation, and vowed to continue to support them in every way possible.
He advocates for quality education, recognizing the need of capacity development, fair remuneration, and access to teaching equipment, and he envisions a conducive learning environment for all.
He also reaffirms his commitment and dedication to teachers’ welfare and announces imminent promotions. He commends their professionalism, emphasizing the collective responsibility to support these educators who are moulding and shaping our society’s future.
The Commissioner of Education, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, acknowledged the unwavering commitment of teachers and their critical role in imparting sound knowledge to children as the cornerstone of a brighter future for the nation, stating, “Let us celebrate and support these dedicated educators.”
In a goodwill message, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare, saying the approval of the N10,000 palliative and the implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage for civil servants at the local government level reflect the governor’s dedication to the well-being of the workforce.
He continued, “Together, let’s continue to build a state where every worker is valued and supported.”
In his remarks, NUT State Chairman, Comrade Atiku Buba, pledged continued support to Governor Fintiri in the crucial mission of ensuring good governance in the State.
He appealed to the Governor for critical measures such as promotions, professional allowances, and yearly increments for primary school teachers.
The event was marked by a colourful match-pass parade comprising teachers from different LGAs and a powerful drama illustrating the challenges faced by educators in the state. These moments highlighted the resilience and dedication of the teachers.
The theme of this year’s World Teachers’ Day, ‘The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The Global Imperative to Reverse Teacher Shortage,’ resonates deeply as we acknowledge the critical role teachers play in shaping the future.
