The Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ENS-PHCDA) says that Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has embarked on massive infrastructure upgrading of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs).
The Executive Secretary of ENS-PHCDA, Dr George Ugwu, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Monday.
He said that Ugwuanyi had recently renovated and upgraded five PHCs to modern “Type-3 PHC centres’’.
Ugwu also revealed that seven of the PHC centres, within the state’s three senatorial zones, are currently undergoing upgrade to Type-3 PHC centres with modern appliances and health equipment needed in them.
According to him, the Ugwuanyi-led administration has decided to elevate PHC centres to higher level by upgrading PHC centres to Type-3 PHC centres with modern infrastructure and equipment.
“These five Type-3 PHC centres, with their green roof in place as specified, are located at Abakpa community in Enugu East LGA, Oji River, Nsukka, Udenu and Agbani areas of the state.
“We also have seven more being currently upgraded and renovated to Type-3 PHC centres as well,’’ he said.
The ENS-PHCDA boss said that the state government had also given approval for renovation and upgrade of 34 PHC centres recently, adding that these PHC centre cut across the 17 council areas in the state.
He said that the governor was making these massive investments in PHC centres sub-section in spite of his numerous other investments in healthcare at other higher levels following the COVID-19 challenge.
“Gov. Ugwuanyi’s grand and noble desire for the PHC is borne out of his understanding that the PHC centres are closer and more accessible by vast number of the state’s population. It will be much beneficial to a lot of people living within the state,’’ he said.
