Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has unveiled plans to upgrade the Charanchi International Market to accommodate the state’s growing economic activities.
The initiative aims to boost commerce, attract more traders, and enhance trade connections within Nigeria and beyond.
This announcement came as the Governor flagged off the construction of a 10.2-kilometer Kusada-Kafarda-Yaya road, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth.
Speaking at the event, Governor Radda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on campaign promises by enhancing infrastructure and economic development.
“As a government, we recognize the trust you placed in us, and it remains our top priority to meet your expectations by implementing projects that contribute to building a better and more prosperous society,” he stated.
Governor Radda also announced plans to modernize the Charanchi International Market to accommodate the growing economic activities in the state. The upgrade aims to attract more traders and boost commerce within Katsina and beyond.
“Roads and markets are critical to economic growth. By improving rural connectivity and upgrading commercial hubs, we are ensuring better trade opportunities and a stronger economy for our people,” the Governor added.
Governor Radda revealed that the state government would soon award a contract for a 19.8-kilometer Bindawa-Shifdawa-Doro road, further expanding rural connectivity.
Additionally, he announced that the government had awarded a N3.1 billion contract for the Garki-Kuntaru-Baushe road in Baure Local Government and planned to construct a 4.7-kilometer Garki-Bakanji road under RAAMP.
The Governor urged communities to safeguard government projects from vandalism and misuse, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in maintaining public infrastructure.
“I appeal to all communities benefiting from these projects to protect them. Any individual found attempting to destroy public assets should be reported to the authorities,” he said.
Governor Radda expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government, international development partners, and stakeholders, particularly the Ministry of Rural and Social Development, for their unwavering support.
The Commissioner for Rural and Social Development, Prof. Abdulhamid Ahmed, commended Governor Radda’s leadership and urged communities to maintain public infrastructure.
Similarly, Alhaji Abubakar Yahya Kusada, the lawmaker representing Kankia-Kusada-Ingawa federal constituency, noted that the Kusada-Kafarda-Yaya road was a long-awaited project that would end the seasonal disconnection of communities during the rainy season.
Other stakeholders, including Hon. Gali Garba, Hon. Ingawa Suleiman Abubakar, and local government chairmen Alhaji Rabiu Aliyu (Kusada) and Hon. Labaran Magaji (Ingawa), expressed gratitude to Governor Radda for ensuring the equitable distribution of development projects across the state.
