The 2025 Hawan Bariki festival in Katsina State made history as Governor Dikko Umaru Radda hosted ten ambassadors from various countries, marking an unprecedented diplomatic engagement during the state’s renowned cultural celebration.
Speaking at the event, Governor Radda expressed his pride in welcoming the international dignitaries, along with their families, to witness the grandeur of the traditional homage to the state governor.
“We take great pride in hosting, for the first time, ten ambassadors from different countries along with their spouses and children. Your presence graces this occasion, and we deeply appreciate your support.
We look forward to further collaborations and partnerships that will bring opportunities to Katsina State,” Governor Radda stated.
The Governor emphasized that Katsina’s traditional festivals serve as vital avenues for promoting its rich cultural identity. He described the Grand Durbar as “a spectacular event that showcases our rich equestrian and cultural traditions.”
“The iconic Sallah Durbar is not merely a festival; it is a testament to our deep-rooted culture, resilience, and unwavering commitment to peace and harmony.
The magnificent display of horsemanship, the vibrancy of our traditional attire, and the melodies of our folk music all reflect the beauty of our identity and the pride we take in preserving our heritage,” he added.
Governor Radda also highlighted the historical significance of the event, recalling that Katsina and Daura Emirates played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s cultural history, particularly during the 1956 Durbar held in honour of Queen Elizabeth II in Kaduna.
Seizing the opportunity to showcase Katsina’s economic potential, Governor Radda invited investors to explore business opportunities in agribusiness, commerce, education, and tourism.
“I call upon our esteemed guests and investors to explore the numerous opportunities that Katsina State has to offer from agriculture to commerce, from education to tourism. Our fertile land presents vast opportunities for agribusiness, while our markets serve as hubs of trade and cultural heritage. We invite you to partner with us in building a future of shared prosperity and sustainable growth.”
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to development, Governor Radda stressed ongoing efforts in security, economic prosperity, and infrastructural expansion.
He pointed to investments in education, healthcare, and security as key drivers for a prosperous Katsina State.
He further assured visitors of his government’s dedication to enhancing tourism and the creative economy, encouraging them to explore the state’s rich cultural heritage.
The Emir of Katsina, HRH Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, commended Governor Radda for his leadership, particularly his infrastructural development initiatives such as the Kofar Kaura Roundabout, Katsina-Dutsinma Road, and the Kaita-Dankama Highway.
“You have shown us that leadership isn’t just about blueprints it’s in the relieved sighs of commuters, the laughter of children biking safely, and the quiet pride of elders watching their heritage walk hand in hand with the future,” the Emir remarked.
He also lauded the presence of the ten ambassadors, describing it as a testament to the peaceful and respectful manner in which Katsina State preserves its cultural traditions.
