Gov. Eno Dissolves State Exco, Mobilizes Permanent Secretaries With Utility Vehicles
By Dennis Udoma, Uyo
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dissolved his Executive Council almost two years he inherited them from the outgone administration of former governor Udom Emmanuel.
Governor Eno, while speaking during a valedictory Exco session with the outgoing Commissioners held at Government House, Uyo Friday, he expressed regrets that, the former commissioners were not sacked for non performance but, they had to end their season to pave way for a new beginning of his administration.
According to him, “… for me, if you were to be changed based on non-performance, I think none of the commissioners would go.
“All of you have delivered and that’s why the Arise Agenda has succeeded.
“But we must come to the end of a season, start another season and keep moving.”
He likened the decision to dissolve the cabinet to action of a football Coach, who make changes in the middle of the game to make it work.
“What we are doing is akin to a football match, where a Coach makes some changes in order to inject fresh steam into the game.
“The other players who are substituted are still relevant to the team and can still be used subsequently to add value to government”, he stated.
The highpoint of the valedictory Exco meeting would be a dinner hosted by the Governor to bid them final farewell.
Observers in the state commended the Governor for laying off the former commissioners and also blamed him for keeping them for too long.
One of them who spoke under anonymity said, almost all of the outgoing commissioners had served for more than 15 years from the time of former Governor Godswill Akpabio in 2011 till date, and thanked Umo Eno for the decision to sack them.
In another development, Governor Eno has presented SUV cars to some permanent secretaries in the State.
The presentation of the vehicles is in line with the governor’s welfare packages to the newly appointed senior government officials to aid their daily operations.
