The Nigerian Army has been commended for it’s ability to secure the country’s sovereignty and keeping the country united, despite the new waves of insecurity plaguing the nation in the past few years.
Akwa Ibom State Governor gave the appraisal while addressing the 2nd and 3rd Quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference 2024 holding in Uyo, the State capital on Tuesday.
According to him, “I make bold to say that, the establishment of headquarters of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army in the State has contributed in no small measure to the relative peace experienced in the State. It has also contributed to creating a good working and harmonious relationship between you and our administration, alongside other sister security agencies in maintaining the peace we enjoy.
“This, I believe, informed your decision to choose Akwa Ibom State to host this auspicious event as a further pointer to the good relationship between Akwa Ibom and the Nigerian Army.
“I am therefore, elated to be with you today to appreciate your continual efforts in addressing the current security challenges bedeviling our dear nation”.
While appreciating the military for addressing these concerns, Governor Eno urges the officers and men to eschew politics as they carry out duties within the law, and the Chief of Staff for honouring Akwa Ibom with the all important conference.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Toafeed Lagbaja earlier. thanked the Governor and the people of the state for the warmed reception accorded them, and for leading a retinue of government functionaries to flag – off the ceremony.
While describing Uyo as his second home, after a stint as Commander, 2 Brigade, he expressed satisfaction at the warmth, peaceful and hospitable nature of the people of the State which he said justified the confidence and choice of Akwa Ibom for the event and subsequent Army conferences in the future.
The conference, according to Lt. Gen Lagbaja, was inspired by the persistent security challenges in the country and assured that, the Army would continue to do its best to keep every part of the country safe and secure.
