Gombe North Awareness and Reform Initiative (GONARI), non-governmental organisation based in Gombe has met Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi over the planned relocation of Gombe State College for Nursing and Midwifery from Dukku local government area (LGA) to Akko LGA.
Speaking after the meeting, Chairman of the group, Abdullahi Muhammad Lalas said they had a fruitful deliberation over the issue.
According to him, they oppose the planned relocation of the college from Dukku LGA to Akko LGA because the institution is the only tertiary institution in Dukku, while Akko LGA has two federal and one state government owned tertiary institutions.
According to him, “We met the SSG to express our dissatisfaction on the planned relocation of College of Nursing and Midwifery from Dukku LGA in Gombe North Senatorial Zone to Akko LGA in Gombe Central Senatorial Zone.
“We deemed it unfair to Gombe north and Dukku LGA in particular because the college is the only tertiary institution in Dukku, while Akko LGA hosted Federal University in Kashere, Gombe State University of Science and Technology, and Institute of Transport Technology both in Kumo.
“The SSG has promised that the government will look into the matter, and it is our hope that the decision will be rescind.” He said
