The Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe is set to commence laser surgeries, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of hospital, Dr Yusuf Abdullahi, has stated.
Abdullahi stated this in an interview with journalists on Thursday shortly after assuming office for the second term following his recent reappointment by President Bola Tinubu.
The chief medical director said the hospital is procuring modern equipment for laser surgeries which is a type of surgery that uses special light beams instead of instruments, to perform surgical operations.
In addition to that, he said the facility is also procuring equipment for treatment of cancer, noting that the idea is aimed at bringing relief to patients who currently have to travel to distant locations like Lagos, Sokoto, Maiduguri, or Abuja for treatment.
According to him, cancer is getting more prevalent which requires the hospital to bring succour to patients assuring that the hospital has started procuring big equipment for its treatment.
“My adminstration in the hospital will also ensure transition to solar energy within the year, reducing its dependence on fuel-guzzling generators and lowering electricity costs.
“We will also prioritise staff training and development because we recognise the importance of a skilled and efficient workforce in delivering quality healthcare services.”, he promised.
