Gombe State Flags Off PHC Revitalisation Programme To Strengthen Healthcare Delivery

The Gombe State Government has officially flagged off the revitalisation of Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) across the state in a bid to improve healthcare service delivery at the grassroots level.
The event held at Lalapido PHC, was organised by the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency under the Impact Project PHC Revitalisation Programme.
In her opening remarks, the Chairperson of Shongom Local Government Area, Binta Bello, reaffirmed the commitment of the local governments to supporting healthcare initiatives.
She disclosed that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya had prioritised the revitalisation of PHCs in all 114 wards of the state, recognising Gombe’s position in national healthcare rankings.
The Emir of Kaltungo, HRH Engineer Sale Muhammad, commended the governor for his dedication to strengthening healthcare services.
He also used the platform to advise farmers against replanting imported crop varieties, emphasising the importance of using indigenous seeds for sustainability and food security.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, stated that the revitalisation of PHCs was a collaborative effort between the state government and local councils.
He stressed that PHCs serve as the first point of contact for communities and will be equipped with necessary medical facilities to enhance service delivery.
Dr Dahiru also urged healthcare workers to demonstrate dedication as the government improves hospital infrastructure and drug supply.
He called on the public, especially those in rural areas, to register with the state’s health insurance scheme, GoHealth, for better access to healthcare services.
Additionally, he cautioned contractors handling the rehabilitation projects to ensure quality work and requested maximum cooperation from residents to support the initiative.
The event concluded with remarks from dignitaries and prayers led by religious leaders.
