Gombe State has witnessed a remarkable decline in the number of out-of-school children as a result of the effective policies and programmes implemented in the education sector, a non governmental organisation, Civil Society Action Coalition On Education For All (CSACEFA) has said.
The NGO in a press release by its state coordinator, Halima Mahadi explained that the development was due to the meaningful collaboration among various partners, including SUBEB, BESDA, AGILE, and other stakeholders.
According to her, the state governor’s approval of the settlement of WAEC fees for public schools is a significant step towards reducing the number of out-of-school children.
“This move will enable poor parents to have their children complete their secondary education.
“The state government’s efforts, including the construction and rehabilitation of new and existing schools respectively, are expected to increase enrollment rates,” she said.
CSACEFA expressed appreciation for the governor’s initiatives, noting that they would have a positive impact on the education sector, especially for girls who were previously forced into hawking, child labour, and other forms of exploitation.
