The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has blasted the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over its comments over the gale of defections currently hitting the Governor Yahaya-led administration and the ruling party.
In a statement issued to journalists by its Public Relations Officer, Murtala Usman Dukku, the PDP described a recent press conference by the APC as “laughable and indication that the party has lost its bearing ahead of the 2023 general election.”
The opposition party said: “Instead of addressing the internal rangling leading to the massive resignations and defections from your party, you’ve now resorted to needless press conference and abysmal denial of the reality.”
In an apparent message to Governor Inuwa Yahaya, the PDP said: “It’s laughable and a clear indication that your party, the APC, has lost its bearing ahead of the 2023 general election. It has started hemoraging from multiple wounds while battling hemophilia simultaneously.”
It rebuked the ruling APC: “A party that cannot manage its affairs, resolve internal crisis, will never provide the needed leadership to the people, get ready to hand over in 2023.”
The opposition party described the APC as a combination of angry hatred-driven and selfish elements “who do not deserve to be trusted with leadership.”
In recent times, apart from defection of some party officials from the ruling APC, several political appointees and stakeholders have resigned from the party, including the first commissioner of Health in the APC government, Dr Ahmed Gana, Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Hussaina Goje, the Executive Chairman Gombe State Sports Commission, who was also the returning officer to Governor Yahaya in 2015 and 2019 elections, Malam Hamza Adamu Soye, two special advisers and senior special assistants.
Others include: member representing Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye federal constituency at the national assembly, Yaya Bauchi, members representing Billiri and Pero Chonge at the Gombe State House of Assembly, Rambi Ayala and Samuel Markus.
