Police in Gombe have described as utterly untrue reports that kidnapping and other criminal activities are rocking Pindiga, Akko Local Government Area of the state.
“The attention of Gombe State Police Command has been drawn to a misleading and fabricated stories that has gone viral on social media platforms, purportedly credited to one Auwal Aliyu Pindiga dated 27 July,2022 and was published by some mainstream news outlets without verifying the authenticity from the Police or the Communities mentioned,” the Gombe State Police Command spokesman, ASP Mahid Muazu Abubakar, said in a statement.
He described as false “The report states that Gunmen are now having a field day at Pindiga area of Akko local government and that Kidnapping cases and undocumented incidents of shops breaking and looting are now on the increase with at least four cases recorded within the last one month.”
The Gombe Police spokesman said it was false that an Airplane was sighted hovering above the area which according to the author created panic in the communities and made many residents to relocate from Pindiga.
Based on the false report, ASP Abubakar said the Area Commander Metro and DPO Pindiga Division visited the communities of Galadima and Tundu villages under Nasarawo district of Pindiga Emirate, where he spoke with the District Head, Alhaji Muhammad Kawuwa Ahmed, who confirmed to him that there was no such occurrence within the vicinity in the past one month and residents of those communities were seen going about their seasonal farming activities without any fear of molestations or harassment.
“The command wishes to clearly state that there is no iota of truth in the panicky scenerio been circulated,” he stated, describing the report as mischievous, misleading and calculated attempt by some unpatriotic individuals aimed at instilling fear among the communities.
The Police spokesman conveyed the Command’s advice to disregard the report and go about their lawful businesses.
He said the Command urged all media outlets in the State to imbibe the doctrine of investigative journalism as required in their noble profession in order to guard against spreading fake news which is aimed at truncating the relative peace enjoyed by the good people of the State.
