Police in Gombe and other parts of the state have killed a robbery suspect and arrested 17 other suspected criminals engaged in armed robbery,theft, Kalare and other various criminal activities across the state.
This was revealed in a statement signed by the State Police Command’s Spokesperson, ASP. Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar on Thursday which gave details of a press briefing regarding the successes recorded by the command in recent weeks.
According to the Spokesperson, a suspected armed robber was killed by the police after a gun duel following a report that, the robbers have blocked Gombe to Degeze road and robbed drivers and passengers of their properties.
He stated, “Police operatives attached to Bojude Division who were on routine patrol rushed to the scene on a rescue mission, on getting to the scene the armed robbers engaged the operatives in a gun duel but were subdued by the fire-power of the Police who succeeded in neutralizing one of the robbers and recovers an AK 47 rifle and a phone as exhibits, the corpse will be deposited at the morgue”.
The police further informed that, a suspect, Ibrahim Garba of Kurjale, jagali south, Yamaltu Deba LGA of the state was also arrested after a complaint by saleh Maikanwa who lives in the same community with the suspect on the 26/06/2023.
The complainant informed the police that, the suspect and others criminally conspired and entered into the house of one malam Abdullahi Mohammed ‘m’ of kurjale, attacked and inflicted machetes’ cut on his three children.
According to the police, officers from Deba Division rushed to the scene and evacuated the victims to General Hospital Deba for medical attention, where one of the victims Sabiu Abdullahi was confirmed dead by a medical Doctor.
The police added, “Suspect confessed to the crime and case will soon be charge to court upon the conclusion of the investigation”.
Similarly, the police arrested Okasha Gwall of Barunde quarters, Gombe for stabbing Ibrahim Abubakar of the same address went to separate the suspect during a fight with another person.
According to the police, the victim sustained deep injury as a result his intestine was out but was rushed to Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe for treatment.
“The police said, “He was admitted and is responding to treatment. Suspect was arrested and when interrogated he confessed to have commited the offence and will soon be charge to court for prosecution”.
The police have also arrested three suspects; Mohammed Sani Umaru; Ibrahim Ahmadu and Shitu Adamu while four other are at large over allegedly inciting public disturbance.
According to the police, Kawu Leka of Ardo Salatu village Kwadon reported that a party was organized by the youth of Umaru Bodeyo village of Kwadon LGA on 02/07/2023 and a fight broke out between the suspects of Salatu village and Bodeyo village in which Sani Waziri aged 22yrs sustained serious injury on his head.
The police added, “On reciept of the complaint, team of policemen rushed to the scene. Victim was rushed to specialist hospital Gombe for medical attention”.
Another suspect,Jauro Haruna was also arrested for allegedly alongside other suspects beating Murtala Ahmed to Coma, took him to Kalo Village and dumped leading to his subsequent death.
The police detectives from D/kowa Division swung into action after a formal complaint by Bala Hamza Bulama and took the victim to Cottage Hospital Dadin-kowa where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The police said, that the suspect was later arrested while effort is on top gear to arrest the fleeing supects adding that, Jauro Haruna Adamu has already confessed to the crime and the case will soon be charge to court upon the completion of investigation.
Six other suspects, Uman Ali; David Babayo; Ibrahim Abdullahi;Suleiman Alhassan; Abubakar Alhassan and Mohammed Sani Ibrahim were also arrested by the police over alleged Kalare activities and possession of dangerous weapons.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested on 30th/06/2023 by team of operation Hattara while on routine patrol during sallah durbar of the Emir of Gombe.
The police stated that, the suspects were allegedly found in possession of dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, sword and other sharp objects with the intention to attack innocent people and rob them of their valuables, between Bolari and Nasarawo quarters Gombe.
Similarly, Police from Gombe Division also arrested Haladu Abubakar alias ‘Sai Baushe’ of Dawaki qtrs Gombe, after a formal complaint by Adamu Ibrahim of Wuro-kesa qtrs area of Gombe metropolis who brought his wife in a pool of blood.
According to him, an unidentified person trespassed into his house and stabbed his wife, Zainab Adamu with a Knife on her left hand when she saw the suspect and raised alarm which woke him up.
Police detectives from Gombe Division rushed the victim to Federal Teaching Hospital for medical attention, she later died while receiving treatment as a result of excessive bleeding.
A dane gun, a knife and a torch light was recovered from the suspect. Case will soon be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation.
In another instance, Auwal Mohammed of Jeka da fari quarters Gombe was arrested after a distress call received by the police from Buba Shango that an unknown person was sighted lying down inside a drainage looking lifeless.
Police detectives, from Gombe Division rushed to the scene and took the body to Specialist Hospital where he was confirmed dead by the medical Doctor.
The police stated that, “Investigation revealed that on the same date at about 1650hrs, one khadija Abdullahi Maji ‘f’ aged 15yrs of Buba-shango was together with her two younger brothers behind science II Buba-shango when three unknown persons criminally conspired and armed themselves with knives, attacked and robbed her of her GSM phone Tecno Pop 7 valued N60,000. When she raised alarm a motorcylist pursued them, then one of the supsects fell down and was lynched by angry mob and dumped him into the drainage*.
According to the police, one of the fleeing suspects, Auwal Mohammed alias Shasha was arrested in connection to the case by detectives and he confessed to have committed the crime and voluntarity.
Three other suspects, Salihu Mohammed;Umar Haruna and Mohammed Abdulkadir were also arrested by the police in Gombe over alleged shop breaking, theft, aiding and abetment.
According to the police, a distress call received from London Maidaurawa quarters Gombe, that a fertilizer store belonging to Muhammed Ahmed has been burgled by the suspects who criminally conspired along with muhammed Abdulkadir that gave them his motorcycle Bajaj Boxer red in colour which was used to convey the three bags of urea fertilizers.
However one of the suspects, Umar Haruna was beaten up by angry mob as a result of which he sustained injuries while Salihu Muhammed fled and abandoned the motorcycle and the three bags of the stolen fertilizer.
The police added, “On receipt of information team of patrol 999 rushed to the scene and arrested the injured suspect and he was taken to Specialist Hospital for treatment. One Motorcycle and three bags of fertilizer were recovered as exhibits.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Oqua Etim commended the operatives involved in the operation/investigation for their swift action and dedication to duty.
“He also urged them to continue to work tirelessly to ensure that criminals are brought to justice and that the State remains safe and secure for all residents”.
