The Gombe State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Publicity Secretary, Murtala Usman Dukku has resigned.
He tendered his resignation in a letter addressed to the state chairman of the party dated December 22, 2022.
The letter reads, “I wish to write in respect of the above-mentioned subject heading to inform you that | have resigned from the post of PDP state PRO as from today 22nd December, 2022 due to the nonchalant attitude of the Gubenatorial Candidate towards the members of the party and his utterances to the general public.
“I wish to thank the leadership of the party and the party leader Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, OON (Talban Gombe) for giving me the opportunity to serve as that capacity for almost four years.
“Moreover, I want to thank the general public for the encouragement and support given to me all over the state during the period of my service as the PRO of the party.
” I Hope my Resignation will be accepted with good faith”.
It could be recalled that, the Gombe State PDP Publicity Secretary was earlier suspended by the party over alleged misconduct.
His suspension was contained in a statement on Wednesday signed by the State Secretary of the party, Alhaji Adamu H. Abu Bakar.
It reads, “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Gombe State Chapter has approved the suspension of its Public Relations Officer (PRO) Murtala Usman Dukku for antiparty activities and gross misconduct.
“As the PRO of the party who is suppose to protect the image of the party his activities are inimical! to the ideals and progress of the party.
“The general public is hereby informed that anybody who conducts any business with him in the name of PDP does so at his own peril”.
The PDP has been in crisis since it’s primaries in Gombe State.
The crisis was precipitated largely by the choice of it’s candidate which was rejected by many prominent members.
He was accused of allegedly making statements against members of the party at public gatherings which did not go down with them.
This prompted the exodus of prominent members from the party into the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Thousands of PDP members were received by the Gombe State NNPP Governorship candidate, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki .
