Resident of Abuja and public affairs commentator, Ahmed Shu’aibu Gara Gombe berates governor inuwa’s administration over plan to impose tax on preachers, wheelbarrow pushers, bicycle riders and others.
Gara Gombe, while speaking to our reporter on phone on Saturday afternoon described the new tax law as desperate illusion to turn the state into Dubai overnight.
“If the Chairman of the State Revenue Agency thinks we are fools or idiots and can just wake up and impose Taxes on our people we will resist him. The way he is going is not the way to generate revenue in a state like Gombe.”
Gara Gombe, a sport enthusiast and former FA Chairman in Gombe State also alleged that the state government has budgeted N350 Million to gag the media against speaking up on the issue.
And when asked of the authenticity of his allegation that the government has earmarked N350m to gag the media, Gara Gombe explained that it is a fact known to all in the state.
“Your budget of 350m for media to shut them up from standing up for our people cannot work. We have alternative to take you on” He said.
Recall that Daylight Reporters reports that the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS) is planning to expand its tax payers’ register to include religious institutions, wheelbarrow pushers, bicycle riders, among others, a move which has attracted wide-spread criticisms from all angles.
