Gombe State governor Inuwa Yahaya on Tuesday launched the Gombe State Multi-sectoral Strategic Plan of Action on Food Nutrition.
Launching the policy at the International Hotel, Gombe which was supported by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), the governor represented by his deputy Manasseh Jatau said the launching of the policy was approved by the State Executive Council in order to key into the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
He said the launching signified the determination of the state government to meet the demands of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and also the national policy of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of the present administration, of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In his remarks, the commissioner, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Salisu Baba Alkali said Governor Inuwa Yahaya is the first to approve the policy in the North East and appreciated the support from UNICEF and other donor agencies towards achieving the targeted goal.
Earlier, the representative of the Chief of Field Office, UNICEF, Bauchi Mrs Philomena Irene noted that nutrition is a Multi-sectoral and multi- disciplinary issue involving various sectors including health, agriculture, science anf technology, education, social protection, water and sanitation thereby improving economic growth.
According to her, the food and nutrition policy launched would guide Gombe State to address the hindrances to food and nutrition security from individual, household, community, local government to state levels.
She commended Gombe State for contributing N50 Million Naira as a counterpart contribution for the child nutrition fund to address all forms of malnutrition particularly wasting, anaemia and stunting.
