Gombe: Health workers under the auspices of Join Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) in Gombe state has declared a 7 days warning strike over what they called “long standing injustice against their members.”
JOHESU, in a statement on Wednesday, has ordered its members to withdraw Services from midnight of Wednesday, 22 October, 2020, since their is no sign of sincerely and commitment on the part of the government to address their issues.
According to the statement, “You may recall that we had issued a fourteen (14) days ultimatum and following the intervention of the Head of Civil Service (HoS), Alh. Bappayo Yahaya on 12th October 2020 at a meeting in his office, we decided to extend the ultimatum by seven (7) days, making it 21 days. This lead to a meeting with the Chief of Staff Government House in the presence of the HoS, Commissioner and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health.
“The meeting ended with a commitment from the Chief of Staff to see His Excellency, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Governor of Gombe state and later get back to us within the period of the ultimatum. But up to this moment no Communication in this regard.” The statement reads.
The demand of the aggrieved workers, according to the statement, include; “Implementation of promotion and payment of accrued arrears to both state and local government health workers, domestication of risk allowances due to COVID-19, Implementation of internship programme for nurses, restoration of new Minimum Wage and implementation of 10% of the old minimum wage to local government health workers.
“In the light of these outlined acts of industrial violations and discrimination of our members across the length and breath of the state, we have no other choice than to embark on a seven (7) days warning strike commencing Wednesday 12 midnight 22nd October, 2020 and ends on the 29th October 2020.” The statement declares.
