Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has charged members of Gombe State Security, Traffic and Environmental Corps who have just graduated from a two- week training, to be upright in character and conduct themselves professionally in discharging their duties, just as he urged them to be good ambassadors of the scheme and policies of the present administration.
The Governor gave the challenge while presiding over the passing out parade of the 500 Batch A Gombe state Security, Traffic and Environmental Corps (GOSTEC) after undergoing a 2- week intensive training Programme.
Governor Inuwa called on the general public to give them the necessary support and encouragement to discharge their duties well for the collective benefit of all.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, the governor said the programme targets 2000 agile youths who will be recruited in batches to help in complimenting the statutory bodies in improving and enhancing the enforcement of traffic, security and environmental laws and order in the state.
Governor Inuwa described GOSTEC as a home-grown innovation aimed at harnessing the energies of youths in state building.
He congratulated the GOSTEC recruits on their passing out, expressing optimism that their engagement will improve and enhance the enforcement of traffic, security and environmental laws and order in the state.
“As pioneers of this programme, I urge you all to uphold and strive hard to use the knowledge and skills you acquired in the cause of your trainings in order to discharge your assigned responsibilities efficiently well without fear or favour”, he remarked.
Governor Yahaya appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders who contributed towards the success of the training.
“Our sincere appreciation goes to the consultancy firm responsible for the training of these energetic youths as well as the immeasurable supports from the hardworking para military agencies closely working together to ensure the trainees acquired the desired operational skills in their respective tasks. I commend the various stakeholders that contributed immensely to the realization of GoSTEC most importantly the offices of Gombe State Human Capital Development under Barr. Sani Ahmed Haruna and the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment Haj. Maryam Uwais.
“We are indeed proud of your commitment which has made Gombe state a model”,.he added.
Governor Yahaya assured his administration readiness to partner with all relevant national and international organisations, institutions and other development partners in order to improve the living standard of the people.
The governor assured the good people of Gombe State that apart from GOSTEC, his administration has embarked on many projects and programmes aimed at improving human capital.
“we have been working tirelessly towards the completion of the first phase of the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, Dadin Kowa, which is expected to absorb not less than 10,000 youths when done.
“We are equally working to commence another programme that would empower not less than 5,000 women across all the 114 political wards of the state with various small scale business skills and starter packs for earning a living and support to families”
Reaffirming the disposition of Gombe State Government to end the menace of youths restiveness, the governor said, “Let me at this juncture reiterate our administration’s commitment in ending youth restlessness in Gombe State by providing them with adequate opportunities and necessary entrepreneurial skills to engage in decent jobs for overall development.
“However, the menace of using our youth in political thuggery and criminality for the selfish interest of politicians will not be condoned by us. We will remain determined to end the “Kalare” activity in Gombe State Insha Allah”, the governor warned.
In her remark, Hajiya Maryam Uwais, Special Advisor to the President on Social Investment and ARC-P national lead, expressed her satisfaction with the programme in Gombe, being the first state to subscribe to it.
She also aplauded the rare commitment of Governor Inuwa Yahaya which makes Gombe a model state in the country.
Speaking earlier, the At- Risk Children Programme, ARC-P state lead and Special Adviser to the Governor on Human Capital Development, Barrister Sani Ahmed Haruna appreciated the support governor Yahaya accorded the programme.
Barrister Sani said, the 500 Corps members cut across four ranks in accordance with their educational qualifications as Supretendant one, two, three and four respectively in accordance to the three main domains of the programme; security, traffic control and environment.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of the training consultancy firm, Good Work Solutions and Allied Services, Wing Commander Ibrahim Sarki (rtd) said he was satisfied with the training and performance of the GOSTEC corps and assured that the squads are fully equiped with mordern skills that will practically help in socio-economic development of the society.
In his remarks, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zubairu Muazu urged the graduating Corps members to exhibit the highest disciplinary standards, be honest and dedicated to their duties a well as shun all forms of corruption and anti social behaviours.
The event held at the temporary NYSC orientation camp Amada was attended by members of the State and national Assembly, Secretary to Gombe state government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, Hon. Commissioners, Special Advisers, traditional rulers, groups and associations.
