A middle-aged man, Ahmad Umar, was knocked unconscious and suffered a serious head injury with four fracture in different parts of his body, by a speeding convoy of the Governor of Gombe state.
Daylight Reporters gathered that the victim was riding on a motorcycle when the governor’s convoy hit him from the rear.
It was also gathered that the accident occurred around Investment Quarters in Tumfure area within the Gombe metropolis, when the Governor’s convoy was rushing to a Television Station for Media Chat on Monday.
A source told Daylight Reporters that the convoy abandoned the victim on the road and drove away.
Confirming the incident to our reporter in Gombe, a brother of the victim who doesn’t want his name be mentioned, told our reporter in a telephone interview that the incident occurred in the evening of Monday, July 13, 2020, when the victim was returning to home.
“At about 7:50 pm of Monday, July 13, 2020, we were called and informed that our brother was knocked down by a vehicle in Gombe Governor’s convoy. We rushed to the scene and found him on the roadside unconscious. We rushed him to Gombe Specialists Hospital but the doctor at the Accident and Emergency Unit told us that the issue is beyond their capacity and advised that we should take him to Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) Gombe.
“Because we witnessed several fractures in his body and serious head injury, we decided to take him to Flossy Consultant, a private hospital that specialises in treating bone injuries. There, they gave him first aid treatment and conducted some tests. The following day, they told us that CT scanning needs to be conducted on him because he was still unconscious. So they referred us again to FTH Gombe.
“At the FTH Gombe, they told us that they don’t have a functional CT scanning machine. They referred us to Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital. We spent three days receiving treatment here but still, he is unconscious. He was hit badly in his head” He narrated.
When asked whether or not, the government has contacted them about the conditions of the victim? He said “They don’t bother to know the condition in which he is. They neither call nor sent a delegation to come and see his condition. It’s the family members who are sourcing money for his treatment and medical bills.
Ahmed is 21 years old and a student at Gombe State University.
