Gombe: Akko Community Decries Marginalisation

The indigenes of Gona district of Akko Local Government Area of Gombe state have decried marginalisation, while also begging for political inclusion in the state.
In a statement signed jointly signed by the Chairman of the group, Halliru Umar Salama and the Secretary General, Muhammad Saleh Katam states that Gona district is under represented and under developed.
Salama disclosed in the statement that some noted concerns regarding the district plights were discussed at the extraordinary executive council meeting held on Thursday; 10th of September, 2020.
According to the statement: “we have noted that out of the cumulative 209,138 Registered Voters in Akko LGA, Gona District which comprises of Akko, Garko, Kalshingi and Tukulma wards have the highest cumulative of 92,846 Registered Voters representing 44.4% of the total number of Registered Voters in the LGA compared to Kumo District which a have cumulative of 70,725 Registered Voters representing 33.8% and Pindiga District which have a cumulative of 45,612 Registered Voters representing 21.8%.
“We have also noted that Gona District despite been the largest constituency in Akko LGA, have the least number of occupants of political offices currently, and often gets less consideration in terms of political benefits and developmental projects.
“In Tukulma for example, there is no Government Senior Secondary School and active Police Station, which is a threat to the safety of people living there and that of their properties.
“We have also noted that Gona District have only seven (7) political offices— one (1) elected while six (6) appointed. Kumo District have twenty one (21) political offices— 3 elected while eighteen (18) appointed. Pindiga District have fifteen (15) political offices— 3 elected while twelve (12) appointed.
“We have formally written His Excellency, Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Executive Governor of Gombe State appealing for more consideration in his subsequent appointments, and in the forthcoming local government Chairmanship election.
“We lastly appeal to the State Government to construct a Government Senior Secondary School in Tukulma and reactivate Police Station in the town.”
