Former Governor of Gombe State, Danjuma Goje has retained his seat in the Senate.
This followed his re-election for another term in the red chambers in Saturday’s election.
He defeated his closest rival Aliyu Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to clinch the seat.
The two term governor, represents Gombe Central senatorial district comprising Akko and Yalmatu Deba Local Government Areas.
He is the Chairman Senate committee on maritime transport.
Goje won his re-election on the platform of the APC despite the frosty relationship between him and the incumbent Governor Muhammadu Yahaya.
Despite belonging to the same party with the governor, he has not participated in the governor’s campaign train which toured the 144 wards of the state including his Central senatorial district.
His re-election results was announced by the Returning Officer for Gombe Central senatorial district, Professor Mustapha Mohammed.
He said, “Goje Mohammed Danjuma, of the APC having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared and is returned elected.”
“Goje polled 102,916 votes to defeat, Abubakar of the PDP who scored 37,870 and Bibikir Mohammed of the NNPP who polled 1,155.”
