By Armstrong Tseaa, Makurdi
As part of efforts to improve health access to local communities in Benue State, the Global Gospel Missions Initiative has launched a free health care programme in Gboko Local government area.
Speaking at the launch through a representative, His Highness, Chief Ashim has urged his subjects, subordinates and Mbakpegh council to embrace good hygiene practices and health seeking behaviours.
He also called on them to implement this at their households.
The Global Gospel Missions Initiative (GGMI) in collaboration with the Mbakpegh Traditional Council and the Mbakpegh District of Ipav in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State has launched the GGMI 2025 Free Health Care in Gboko at the Greater Scholar Academy, Akahar.
The Team Lead of GGMI, Mr. Gabriel Pilaku, said poor health service delivery in our communities is a serious challenge and public health issue that requires immediate attention.
He called on the Mbakpegh Community and the state government to declare a state of emergency on health and improve on Primary Health Care (PHC) service delivery to rural communities in the state.
Dr. Isaac Utera said the medical services will include consultancy, drugs dispensing, minor surgical procedures, ophthalmological services but eye glasses will not be given to patients.
Earlier in remarks while the team visited the Kindred Head of Mbakpegh of Ipav, Chief Teghtegh Ashim echoed Pilaku’s statement, stating that diseases and sicknesses are dehumanising and on the rise in the community.
He revealed that most of his subjects are sick and lacked money to access health care.
Collaborating Chief Ashim’s position, Mama Mary Tyodzenda and Mr. Philip Awuha, both patients affirmed that lack of money has hindered them from accessing good health care and expressed gratitude for the free health programme.
This year’s outreach is the first since the establishment of GGMI and is unique due to the fact that, the body has grown in scope and operations.
