The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Federal University Dutse (FUD) chapter has organised peaceful protest on Thursday demanding the payment of eight months salary arrears.
Chairman of the union, Comrade Bashir Yusuf led the protest to the Univeraity’s Senate building after a meeting with his members.
He said they held the protest to condemn and reject the casualization of work and to call on the federal government to pay their full salaries and their allowances for the last eight months.
He lamenets the decision by the federal Government to pay ASUU members their October 2022 salary on a pro rata basis after the suspension of the eight months strike which he said making them to be like part time or casual workers .
Comrade Yusuf said, they condemned the action ,saying it is against all conventional laws ,the international labour laws and the civil service rules .
The union leader further explained that, Academic staff are full-time workers whose nature of work is with some peculiarities that make them not the 8:00am to 4.00pm civil servants.
He said, university lecturing is an all time job that covers class teaching Research and community service and therefore they cannot be paid on pro rata or have their salaries withheld on the basic of a legal strike ,even after it was suspended
The FUD ASUU chairman said if federal government failed to pay their eight month salaries they will go back on another strike
