By George Coben, Bauchi
A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara has called on President Bola Tinubu to revisit drilling in Kolmani oil well in Bauchi/Gombe states.
Dogara made the appeal while speaking at the commissioning of the 2.5 kilometer township road project in Zaranda, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, executed by the Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba Umar.
The former Speaker also called for the construction of the Bagel dam in Dass Local Government Area which he believed would open up the area, create sources of employment and increase revenue generation opportunities.
He said if done, the Bagel multipurpose dam will generate electricity for all the local government areas in Bauchi South Senatorial District and will lead to economic activities and development in the area.
Dogara who expressed concern over the abandoning of the multi-billion naira oil exploration project in Kolmani, believed that if Bauchi State joins the oil producing states, there would be more revenue allocation through derivation while more revenue generation sources will be opened.
He assured that once the two projects are executed, the President will not even need to come to Bauchi to campaign in 2027 as the people will gladly vote for him.
Former President Muhammadu Bihari flagged off the Kolmani oil project at Burambu of Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, in November, 2022, where he explained that the exploration had already attracted over $3 billion in foreign direct investment, and will boost Nigeria’s earnings with the discovery of over 1 billion barrels of oil reserves and 500 billion cubic feet of gas.
Speaking earlier, Senator Buba explained that the road project was a fulfilment of his electioneering campaign promise made ahead of the 2023 polls, and assured of more democracy dividends for the people.
He reiterated his commitment to providing basic amenities for the common good of his constituents.
In his remarks, the Chairman of APC in Bauchi State, Hon. Muhammad Tilde described the road project constructed by the Senator as testament to his transformative leadership which is worthy of emulation.
