Five Cheats Death as Plane Skids Off Abuja Airport Runway

An Allied Air Cargo aircraft has skidded off the runway of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Abuja Wednesday prompting an emergency temporarily closure of the facility.
The aircraft involved is with registration number 5N-JRT in the incident that occurred at about 10:05 a.m with five people on board who were evacuated without injuries.
The evacuees were taken to the FAAN clinic for medical checks as a precautionary measure.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah, in a statement, said the Airport Emergency Response Team is on the scene along with accident investigators.
According to her, the runway is being cleared and expected to reopen for operations as soon as possible.
She pleaded that all speculations be put on hold until the preliminary report is released by the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
