FG Lauds Akwa Ibom On Water Resources, Sanitation Projects

Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, has commended Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State for the implementation and payment of counterpart funding to support federal government projects in the area of Water Resources and Sanitation.
He gave the appraisal at the 32st conference of Regular Meeting of the National Council on Water Resources and Sanitation holding in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The Minister listed the different projects and programmes to begin in the state and appreciated the Governor for his support assuring more support and collaboration where necessary.
In his remarks, Governor Eno assured the Federal Government of his administration’s support in the area of water resources and sanitation for the good of the people of the State.
The conference tagged, “Water and Food Security: Challenges and Opportunities in the Face of Daunting Climate Change” which began on January 27 will end on 3, 2025.
Governor Eno, while receiving the Minister and officials of the National Council on Water Resources and Sanitation on a courtesy visit in his office at Government House, ahead of the conference noted that, water and sanitation are very essential to the development of any society.
He added that, cognisant of the enormity of work required in the sector, and the need for major strides to impact on the people, he on assumption of office, created a separate ministry for Water Resources, removing it from Lands where it was earlier domiciled.
Governor said, while he served as Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources in the State before he became Governor, had launched the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme and also had some trainings as part of efforts to end open defecation in some local government areas.
He appreciated the Minister for the visit, his interest in the state and for the approval to host the 31st Regular Meeting of the National Council on Water Resources and Sanitation – the highest decision-making body for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector in the country, in Akwa Ibom.
