Robotic Science and Embedded Systems expert, Dr. Onyema Edward has hailed the deployment of robotics technology in tackling environmental issues in Nigeria.
He said presently robotic deployment has impacted farely well on humanity and the environment.
Dr. Edward made the remarks in a statement to the media in Uyo on Monday.
A Chartered Engineer by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, (COREN), he emphasized that, robotic science has greatly influenced behavioral patterns of Nigerians in the way they live, work and interact.
He highlighted the impacts of such deployment in area of security, agriculture, transportation and the media among others.
According to him, “Robots were first deployed in 2019 to enhance surveillance and monitoring, particularly in areas prone to crime or terrorism in the country.
“The agricultural sector has also seen the introduction of autonomous farming equipment such as; drones and robotic tractors, which were first deployed in 2020 to optimize crop yields and reduce waste,” Edward said.
In the area of transportation and healthcare, Edward said robotic has made profound impacts.
“Nigeria has introduced driverless cars, also known as car-like robots, which were first legalized on public roads in 2022,” he said.
Engineer Edward added that, the healthcare sector has also benefited from the deployment of medical and healthcare robots, which were first introduced in 2021 to facilitate medical procedures and improve patients care.
He explained that the energy sector has also seen the introduction of robotic systems to improve oil and gas exploration, production, and distribution, which were first deployed in 2020, while the automation, and intelligent systems in Nigeria has been steadily increasing since 2019, with various sectors benefiting from the introduction of these technologies.
