The Jigawa State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that, the defection of former deputy governor, Alh. Ahmed Mahmoud Gumel from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has opened an exit route for other members of the party.
The party in a statement by the Deputy Director, Media and Publicity, Santuraki Campaign Directorate, (SCD), Umar Kyari Jitau Madamuwa on Saturday stated that, no doubt, his resignation is an exit route for other politicians who are presently trapped in APC.
It stated, “His exit will also serve as a wake up call for the Re-Grouping of the Progressives under their known mentor, Dr Sule Lamido”.
According to the PDP, APC stalwarts have visited the former deputy governor begging him to have a rethink, forgive them and withdraw his ‘Resignation Letter’.
The PDP added, “But to all right thinking people, APC is getting it wrong here and it even amounts to political immaturity to expect Alh. Ahmed Mahmoud Gumel to withdraw a letter he Honourable wrote and with his Honourable hand, “Real Desperation By APC, you call it”.There is no political scientist to fault the political math here in Jigawa state come 2023″.
The party emphasised that, the combination of former governor, Saminu Turaki, former deputy governor, Ahmed Mahmoud Gumel and Sule Lamido means victory for the PDP in Jigawa State.
It however stated that, the combination of Governor Badaru Abubakar, His deputy, Danmodi who is also the APC Governorship candidate minus the former deputy governor Ahmed Mahmoud Gumel who defected to the PDP means failure and defeat for the APC in the state.
It could be recalled that, a reception was held for the former deputy governor in Bamaina, the birthplace of former governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido few days ago where he was presented with his PDP membership card to welcome him back to the party.
In an address, former governor, Dr Sule Lamido said, APCs’ time is up in Nigeria adding that, his former deputy has made a good political judgement, describing his defection and rejoining PDP as a homecoming.
In a short remark, Alh. Ahmed Mahmoud Gumel disclosed that, many APC stalwarts are on their way to defect and join the PDP which he said is the party to beat in 2023.
