A Non-governmental Development Support Organisation, Think Nigeria First Initiative (TNFI), has called on the need for peace and calm in the country.
The group disclosed this during a Press Conference on Tuesday in Abuja, through its Director General, Abubakar Tsanni, commended Nigerian youths for expressing their deep sense of grievances and displeasure against SARS brutality in a civil and peaceful manner.
“We at Think Nigeria First Initiative (TNFI) have aligned with the youth in their patriotic advocacy for a greater Nigeria where the life of every Nigerian matters, and the right to dignity of every citizen is guaranteed.
“We commended the youth for outlining their grievances cum demands in clear terms and for conducting the protest so far in an orderly, peaceful and responsible manner. Their cultured, decorous comportment, sense of unity and organisational ingenuity will remain a positive reference point.” He said
The group also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the show of maturity as he recognised the grievances of the protesting youths and acceded to their demands.
“The Think Nigeria First Initiative wishes to commend the maturity and fatherly disposition of Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR for recognizing the rights of Nigerians to express what he aptly termed ‘GENUINE CONGRESS AND AGITATION’ against police brutality and resisting to apply force on the protesting youths. We equally observed that government is already taking serious steps to implement the demands which have led to quite a number of states constituting Judicial Panels to try overzealous trigger happy police officer for the murder of innocent civilians while on duty.” He added.
The group, however, urged teeming youths in the country not to allow themselves to be used by some vested interests to destroy their country.
“However, the sad story of clashes in some states like Edo, Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt etc. and the resultant death(s) of some innocent Nigerians is not palpable, and if allowed to continue, there may be political opportunists who may want to take advantage of the situation to further their obnoxious and selfish political agenda. We must avoid this because in the long run, Nigeria would bear the brunt.”
Tsanni said.
