As the spiritual and political leader of the community, Malam Zaki served as an imam, judge, and military commander with full authority over his people.
He was a man of noble virtues and a staunch guardian and promoter of Islam, devoting his life to the spiritual and social well-being of his people, who believed in him adamantly. When Shehu Ɗanfodio launched his revival movement, Malam Zaki became one of his supporters who joined him with full energy, ensuring the purification of Islam and freeing Hausaland from polytheistic practices.
