An Electrical Engineer, Elisha Fidelis was on Wednesday arraigned at a Karu Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a Honda car valued at N1.8 million.
The Police charged Fidelis, 37, of Kobi Makaranta, Asokoro, FCT Abuja, with theft and mischief.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Mr Ade Adeyanju told the court that the defendant dishonestly stole the complainant’s honda car with registration number FQ 551 LND, worth N1.8 million and absconded to an unknown destination.
Adeyanju said that the defendant was traced and arrested, and in the course of the investigation, it was discovered that he damaged the gearbox, door rubber, low arm, 3 tyres, and the exhaust.
Other damages include the back pot, bumpers, master break, sand protector, inner shelf, and workmanship paid for the repair all valued at N337,000.
The defendant confessed to the crime on further investigation and the vehicle was recovered.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened the Penal Code.
The Judge, Umar Mayana, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1.8 million with two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties must live within the court’s jurisdiction with their statements of account showing a balance of N2 million.
Mayana said their addresses would be verified by court officers while sureties must be chairmen of the builders’ association.
The judge adjourned the case until June 28 for further hearing.
