Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has enjoined Muslims to imbibe the values of sacrifice, unity and compassion as ingredients necessary to build a greater and prosperous Cross River State and by extension, Nigeria.
Governor Otu gave the charge in a goodwill message to Muslims on the celebration of this year’s Eid-El-Kabir signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Linus Obogo, and made available to journalists in Calabar, the state capital on Sunday.
The governor also stressed the significance of the occasion, noting that, “it serves as a reminder of the diverse and resilient state that everyone of us is a part of.”
He further noted that, “it is a time for reflection on shared traditions and aspirations that bind us together.”
While emphasising the teaching of Id-el Kabir, which he said, included selflessness and empathy, Governor Otu urged the people of Cross River State to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate, in emulation of the ultimate sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim.
The governor, who also sued for togetherness, also offered words of encouragement to Nigerians as well as called on them to continue to live in peace.
“As a community of people, we must come together by casting aside tendencies that seek to divide us, as that is the only way we can transmit values of generosity, kindness, and peace to future generations,” he said.
Expressing gratitude for being the servant-leader of such an exceptional state, Governor Otu thanked Cross Riverians for their unwavering support and belief in his administration.
“As Muslims, your support is as critical as any adherents of other faiths. It is against this background that I thank you and ask for your consistent prayers so that we can achieve as a collective.”
The governor also reminded the Muslims to use the Eid-El-Kabir celebration to remember those who are not as fortunate during the by extending love and care to them in order to make a positive difference in their lives.
