A teacher in Edo State, Winifred Amendment, has announced her attempt at breaking the Guinness World Record for cross-country motorcycle riding by covering a distance of over 500 kilometers in 12 hours nonstop.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital, Winifred, a 2012 graduate of English and Literary Studies from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, revealed that the race is scheduled for March 29, 2025, on a dedicated and approved race track in Evbhobanosa, along the Benin-Agbor Expressway.
According to her, “I love riding bikes, and this is an inspiration from God. I decided to explore it. Initially, I wanted to ride from Benin City to Lagos, but the Guinness World Record authorities did not approve the use of commercial routes. So, I opted for the dedicated motor race track at Evbhobanosa, which was approved.”
“I ride bikes daily, but the one designated for the race is a motorbike similar to those used in desert areas. The Guinness World Record wants to see if I can surpass the existing 500-kilometer record within 12 hours.”
Winifred, who has over 10 years of experience riding motorcycles, stated that this would be her first attempt at a major event of this scale. She expressed confidence in her preparation for the challenge.
As part of her preparations, she said an additional bike would be on standby in case of a breakdown, along with a vulcanizer, a mechanic, an ambulance, surveyors to measure the distance covered accurately, and two security personnel as official witnesses.
She also noted that light refreshments would be provided for spectators expected to witness the event throughout its duration.
