The Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC) has forged a groundbreaking partnership with a car racing performance team to elevate motorsports in the State.
At an unveiling ceremony held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City Thursday, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, the Executive Chairman of council expressed confidence that the initiative will unlock new opportunities for local talent and invigorate the state’s sporting landscape.
Permanent Secretary Mrs. Efe Amenze, accompanied by board member Mr. Baldwin Bazuaye, emphasized the partnership’s significance in engaging youth.
Mrs. Amenze explained that directing young people’s energies toward car racing provides a positive outlet, steering them away from detrimental street activities while nurturing their potential.
Head of Operations for the racing team, Mr. E. Andee Obaike, noted that Edo State stands as the only state in West Africa to house a dedicated motorsports racing center.
He detailed plans for a car racing event set for February 23, 2025, at the Evbuobanosa circuit—a track extending approximately 2.3 kilometers and located just a 30-minute drive from Benin City.
Competitors in this championship will vie for a cash prize of N1million, a reward designed to foster competitive spirit and excellence.
This strategic alliance between the ESSC and the car racing performance team is poised to make motorsports a regular feature in Edo State.
By combining expertise and vision, the partnership aims to promote grassroots development, nurture emerging talent, and enhance community pride.
As preparations advance, this collaboration is anticipated to serve as a catalyst for broader sports engagement and regional development.
Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, said “This venture marks a transformative moment for Edo’s sports scene, promising increased athletic opportunities, community empowerment, and economic upliftment, with local stakeholders eagerly anticipating its long-term impact”.
