The Edo State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man, Kelvin Izekor for allegedly killing his 38 year-old wife, Success Izekor.
A viral video had surfaced showing the police and some citizens carrying the woman’s corpse, which had deep machete cuts on the head, into a police truck.
The couple were said to have newly married, and neighbours were shocked by the incident.
Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrest in a statement. He said the suspect was nearly lynched by an angry mob before police intervened.
“On 22/02/2025 at about 22:00 hrs, we received information that one Kelvin Izekor of No. 50 Upper Mission Extension, Benin City, had killed his wife and was about to be lynched.
“Officers from Aduwawa Division responded swiftly. They found the woman’s lifeless body in a pool of blood with deep head wounds. It took serious efforts to pacify the mob, rescue the suspect, and take him into custody,” Yamu said.
He added that the victim was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed her death.
