The Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has said that the greater inclusion of women in agricultural programs will boost food security and economic growth.
She made this appeal during a meeting with representatives of the LIFE-ND project at the Office of the First Lady, Government House, Benin City.
“Agriculture is a key priority for this administration,” Mrs. Anani stated. “We must ensure food security, employment, economic growth, and financial stability.”
She emphasized the vital role of women in the economy, describing them as hardworking and reliable. “Women are the backbone of the economy. They must be actively involved in this project,” she added.
To sustain the initiative, she urged the implementation of mentorship programs and proper monitoring systems.
LIFE-ND Project Coordinator, Mr. John Omoruyi, who appreciated the government’s support, revealed that Governor Monday Okpebholo allocated ₦1.6 billion to LIFE-ND Plus in the 2025 budget.
He outlined the project’s reach, covering 100 communities across 10 local governments. Profiling women in these communities, he noted, is crucial for the project’s success and long-term impact.
