Economic Hardship: Relief as Jigawa Govt.doles out N1.08B interventions targets 180,000 citizens
Following persisted hunger and other economic hardship ochestrated by the removal of fuel subsidy, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namidi has earmarked the sum of N1.08B in Grant and distributed essential food items for the people of the state.
Hamisu Mohammed Gumel Chief Press Secretary to Jigawa State Governor who spoke to Daylight Reporters on Saturday said the initiative targets individuals including the poor, people living with disabilities, the elderly, and orphans who have been adversely affected by economic difficulties.
Gumel revealed that the distribution event, which took place in Gumel Local Government, saw Governor Umar Namadi emphasize government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of rising inflation following the removal of petroleum subsidies in the country.
He said governor Umar Namadi outlined the specifics of the initiative, noting that a substantial number of beneficiaries, totaling one hundred and eight thousand people, will benefit from this assistance.
Gumel pinpointed that each of the twenty-seven local governments within the state will disburse ten thousand Naira to four thousand eligible recipients.
“In addition to the financial aid, the state distributed 47,410 fifty-kilogram bags of rice, 33,330 cartons of spaghetti, and 8,300 bags of maize to further support those in need.” He stressed
While addressing the gathering, the governor highlighted that these palliatives serve as a short-term safety net for the affected population. He assured the people of Jigawa State that both the state and federal governments are actively working on comprehensive policies, programs, and projects to address long-term socio-economic challenges faced by the populace.
Governor Namadi emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and equitable distribution of the relief packages. Adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the resources reach those who need them the most.
