Cross River Shifts LG Election to November 2, reduces cost of nomination forms

The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) has shifted the date for the local government elections by one week.
By this adjustment, CROSIEC would now conduct the election on Saturday, November 2, 2024 as against the earlier date of Saturday, October 26, 2024.
The chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Dr Ekong Edet Boco, made this known Friday in a statement made available to journalists in Calabar, the state capital.
In the statement titled: “Resolution arising from appeal by IPAC for review of nomination fee for Chairmanship and Councillorship nomination form/extension of date of election date,” Dr. Boco said CROSIEC has also reviewed downward the nomination fee of both Chairmanship and Councillorship nomination forms.
The downward review showed that the chairmanship nomination form would now go for N1 million as against the initial N5 million while the councillorship nomination form would be purchased at N200,000 instead of the N1 million.
According to the new schedule of activities, presentation of list of candidates, including the collection, completion and return of CROSIEC form LGE 001 AND 002 and other forms commence from October 8 to 13, 2024.
It was also learnt that, process and validation of final nomination particulars of candidates would now take place on October 14, 2024, while the publication of final particulars would be on October 20.
