The opposition New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has been hit with a crisis in its Gombe state chapter, leading to the dissolution of the executive committees in five states, including Gombe, by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The move, DAYLIGHT REPORTERS gathered is aimed at repositioning the party ahead of upcoming elections.
The crisis in Gombe state started sooner after the 2023 general elections and Honourable Khamisu Mailantarki, the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 election, resigned his membership of the party in July.
The resignation was seen as a significant blow to the party’s chances in the state.
The NWC, in a statement by National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson, announced the dissolution of the state executive committees in Taraba, Benue, Oyo, Bauchi, and Gombe States. The decision was taken during an emergency meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
According to the statement from the party, the dissolution is part of measures to reposition and revitalise the party in the affected states.
“The dissolved executives will be replaced with caretaker committees, in line with the party’s constitution.”, it said
The NNPP has assured that the caretaker committees will be announced soon and will serve for a stipulated period.
