People living with diabetes under the aegis of Diabetes Association of Nigeria (DAN) Cross Rivers state chapter have threatened to embark on a peaceful demonstration to register their grievances over the total neglect and insensitivity of the state government and the task force on Covid-19 on their plight.
The Chairman DAN Cross River state chapter Comrade Bernard Enyia stated this in a press release issued to our correspondent on the alleged disproportionate way the Covid-19 task force has handled the sharing formular of parlliatives in the state.
He decried the total neglect and insensitivity of the task force on people living with diabetes in the state threatening that peaceful demonstration has become necessary due to the number of people living with diabetes and other underlying diseases dying everyday.
“There is hardly any day someone living with underlying diseases do not die in the state.
“The demonstration which is targeted at the state house of assembly and government house is aimed at drawing the attention of the Covid-19 task force, NCDC, and NCDs Alliance to this social Injustice, stigma and discrimination”. He said.
Bernard also claimed that the state commissioner for health Dr Beta Edu has consistently issued press statements just like the director NCDC stating that 70% of persons who died of Covid-19 are people living with diabetes and other underlying diseases.
