An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday sentenced Lateef Ismail, 40, to three years imprisonment for obtaining N550,000 under false pretext.
The convict, however, was given a chance of spending one year jail if he made refund of the total sum that he obtained by trick.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs T.A. Shotobi, convicted Ismail without an option of fine.
The police Prosecutor, Insp. Christian Okonofua, said that the convict pleaded guilty after listening to the plea of one-count charge of obtaining under false pretext.
Okonofua told the court that the convict committed the offence on Dec. 10, 2021 around 12. 00 p.m. in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
He said the convict had fraudulently collected the sum of N550,000 from one Mr Abraham Henry under the pretext of selling an Opel Zafira vehicle to him.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
