A 35-year-old mechanic, Garba Usman, was on Thursday remanded in a correctional centre, by a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing a tricycle worth N1.2m.
Usman, whose residential address was not given, is charged with conspiracy, breach of trust and theft.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, gave the order after the prosecution counsel, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that investigation into the matter was ongoing.
Emmanuel adjourned the case until March 30 for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on Feb. 16, at about 10 a.m. in Rigasa area of Kaduna.
He said that the complainant(, Zubairu Haruna gave the defendant a brand new tricycle on hire purchase and warned him not to give any other person.
However, he said, the defendant breached the agreement they had and conspired with two others to steal the complainant’s tricycle, claiming that it was stolen by gunmen.
The offence, he said, is punishable under Sections 233, 287 and 271 Kaduna State Penal Code.
Usman pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him by the police.
